Affectionately known as "City" the Lismore Rugby Union club was founded on the 27th March 1968 after a public meeting was called to establish Rugby Union on the Far North Coast of New South Wales. An attendance of 73 people was recorded at the meeting and the Lismore Rugby Union Club was formed.
Due to the overwhelming interest shown by players, 2 teams were formed...one to be known as Lismore City and the other to be known as Lismore Brothers. In 1970, 4 hectares of land was purchased and a rugby field and clubhouse were established. The two identities operated as separate teams until 1976 when they amalgamated to form the Lismore Rugby Club Incorporated.
